Dreams
Dreams, everyone has them right? It doesn't have to be something crazy or unimaginable. A dream, people say is just that something that happens while you are asleep but doesn't happen in real life. But I believe that you can substitute goals in for dreams and it can be the same thing, because your ultimate goal is your dream. People a lot of times don't follow there heart and just do what they can in life to hopefully get a good job in life make decent money and raise a family. But for me it is different I want all those things just like the rest of the world but I don't have beto just work some job that I don't love just because it pays ok money. Money is important very important I understand that but happiness for me really doesn't come from money. Do I want money in life? YES of course I do. Am I going to let it dictate my career outcome that is a NO. I'm not saying I'm going to move to some foreign country chase a dream catch it and be broke the rest of my life that isn't the case. My dream although crazy and unrealistic to some is not to me. I have people tell me did you really think you can get a job in that field or your degree doesn't mean anything or what were you thinking doing that. Well here is what I was thinking: Since I wa a little kid when i got my first basketball goal it was red white and blue USA basketball colors, and my first black Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls jersey in the second grade, that the numbers eventually peeled off of and I had to get a new one I have loved the game of basketball and sports in general. But basketball supersedes all sports for me The first time I went into Assembly Hall with my Dad and got to go down on the court and watch the end of the game through the tunnel the Hoosiers would walk through was a feeling I can't explain. I saw Atwaan Randle El hit a three that game yes thats what I said and he did do everything as a Hoosier athlete, I saw Aj Guyton my favorite Indiana basketball player of all time probably still to this day. I got to watch the team walk right by me, Coach Knight was five to ten feet away from me, Indiana won by a considerable amount that game and he still looked like he was going to go in the locker room and rip the players until they probably didn't want to play anymore. You are probably reading this going whats the point to all this and he really hasn't even explained what his dream or goal is. Well my goal ultimately with my life is to work in the sports medai departemtn for a professional sports organization or a University Media relations department. This goal started that first time to Assembly Hall, at the time I didn't know for sure what it was I always thought I wanted to be a sportscaster and have always admired Bob Costas, Don Fischer, and Marv Albert who are the ones I really look up to the most with their longevity and just passion for sports. But I like the media relations side of it too, media relations sportscasting are similiar parts its all a form of media one way or another. I like the story behind sports. I like t0 learn about players and who they are as people I have read a lot of sports biographies trying to learn about different athletes and their careers and trials and tribulations they have gone through to get to were they are. I love the sound of the whistle before the game, all the players out there communicating just right on defense, I love hearing coaches coach the game and just their passion and love, although you think they are nuts but they are just so passionate about what they do. I like the all out effort when you see five guys diving on the floor for a loose ball just to end up with a tie up and the ref has to get down there to get the players seperated like someone just recovered a fumble. Most of all I love the competition between two teams regardless of the sport, the chess match if you will between coaches and players. I like to see when the hardest working player wins, the walk on who busted his butt in practice for three years who finally gets his chance and goes out there dives on the floor get rebounds and loose balls anything he can do to get his team another possesion.
This is why I want to work in sports media relations, and I will do whatever it takes for me to get there because thats the kind of things that bring me joy. So to all of you who have dreams in life and don't feel you can reach them just realize you can do anything you set your mind to. I know it all sounds like a cliche but its true. Someone has to do those jobs why not you.
